Tarawera Land Company
Tarawera Land Company
Tarawera Land Company is a wholly owned and controlled subsidiary of Māori Investments Limited. It was purchased by MIL in 2004, with its primary purpose being the vehicle to purchase the Tarawera Forest lands back from Tarawera Forest Limited.
Strategic Assets
The Company’s most significant and strategic asset is the Tarawera Forest which is approximately 29,000 hectares. Of this estate, approximately 21,000 hectares is planted in pine forest, of which there are two Forestry Rights: the first in favour of Tiaki Plantations; and the second to Kaingaroa Timberlands.
Whiritoa Orchards
What makes this Bay of Plenty kiwi orchard so successful? “It is the people, it is the people, it is the people,”
Owned by Māori Investments Limited, this 12.1 hectare orchard is actually two distinct and successful orchards. Whiritoa Gold which is 6.8ha in size and the very recently approved Whiritoa Organic which is a 5.3ha fully organic gold orchard.
The combination of these two orchard systems allows us to actively practice Kaitiakitanga through our organic practices and to implement new ideas and approaches across into our conventional orchards.
Rauotehuia Orchard
Gold kiwifruit orchard in Te Teko, Te Moana a Toi
Rauotehuia Orchard (named after previous director the late Rauotehuia Chapman-de Vos ) is a 13ha Gold kiwifruit orchard located on Western Drain Rd, close to Te Teko. It was purchased in 2019 after the Whiritoa orchard in 2017 under the MIL subsidiary Tapatahi Limited Partnership.

Tuahiwi Orchard
Alongside the Rangitaiki Awa.
Tuahiwi was purchased in 2023 across the road from the Whiritoa orchards on Galatea Rd. It’s a 3.9ha Gold Orchard located alongside the Rangitaiki river which previously had both Green and Gold kiwifruit, but following the purchase of the orchard we decided to remove the Green and plant it all in Gold which we completed towards the end of 2023.
Te Hokinga Mai Orchards
Our newest orchards
In July 2024 , we purchased two more Gold Kiwifruit orchards in Te Teko which we’ve named Te Hokinga Mai 1 & 2 to reflect the Board’s strategic objective of investing in high quality assets on what was previously Māori land. The combined canopy area of both orchards is just over 24ha and brings our total Gold Kiwifruit holdings up to 53ha
