Shareholders

Our shareholders are the lifeblood of Māori Investments Limited.  We aim to engage with you and provide assistance wherever possible.  We offer a range of resources for our shareholders, including processes for finding missing shareholders, transferring shares to rightful recipients in succession, and staying connected with updated contact details.  Our commitment also extends to supporting and fostering success for all shareholders through grants accessible to our shareholder community.

Maori Investments Limited has issued capital of 119,707 shares and annually distributes a dividend to approximately 5,500 shareholders.

Our Company is unique in terms of shares that can only be transferred to bloodline relatives of the original 1967 Shareholders, as set out in our Constitution. MIL is not subject to the Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993 and/or the Maori Land Court.

Shares held with MIL are not related to land shares. These are Company shares held by either an individual Shareholder or registered Whanau Trusts.

Minimum Shareholding

In accordance with Māori Investments Limited’s (MIL’s) Constitution, the minimum number of shares that a Shareholder may hold in the Company is ten (10) shares.

When a Shareholder holds less than the Minimum Holding of shares then they may not transfer any number of their shares less than the full number held.  This is to avoid shareholdings becoming uneconomic. Only current shareholders can receive less than ten (10).  These are the following options available:

  1. One beneficiary (depending on how many shares the current shareholder holds) can receive the shares, or
  2. The formation of a Whanau Trust for the benefit of all descendants can be established, or
  3. The sale of the shares can be undertaken. A copy of the Buyers List is available from our office.

With any of the options above we will require written consent from all the entitled descendants. Consent forms can only be obtained from our office.

Shareholder Whanau Trusts

Change of Trustees / Address / Contact Details

Please advise MIL by email info@maoriinvestments.co.nz or by phone on 07 323 8164 if details have changed from the records we keep. Staff can then check the details on file and advise you if further information is required to ensure the Whanau Trust is compliant. This ensures that dividend payments and grant applications are not affected.

Individual Shareholders

Please ensure you keep your contact details current and advise MIL of any changes to ensure dividend payments and grant applications are not affected.

FREE Trustee Training – Māori Land Court

Māori Land Court (MLC) offer FREE training programmes for trustees.

You can attend a session if you are a newly appointed trustee, if you are thinking about becoming a trustee, or if you would like to refresh your knowledge. If you have a current application before the Court, you will need to email your details to MLC.Trustee.Training@justice.govt.nz to ensure you complete the training before your Court hearing.  Once the training is completed, you will receive a certificate, a copy of the presentation and other relevant information to help you on your journey to becoming a trustee.  The training session is not recorded and is usually 1 1/2 – 2 hours, including time for questions and answers.
