Access Permits to Tarawera Falls

Māori Investments Limited manages permit access to Tarawera Falls and is issued by the staff at the Kawerau isite.  You can find information about obtaining a permit below.

Tarawera Falls

Closed During Weekdays

Access to Tarawera Falls is closed during weekdays due to an increase in forestry operations. Please stay clear of this area for your own safety.

The forest may be closed in summer when the fire risk is high, so please call in advance if you plan to make travel arrangements.

Open During Weekends & Public Holidays Only

Access to Tarawera Falls is through privately owned land and requires you to obtain a permit.

Public access to Tarawera Falls is available during weekends and public holidays ONLY!

Road vehicle access will NOT be granted to Lake Tarawera/Te Tapahoro.

Permits must be displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle for security purposes.

To obtain a permit please visit the Kawerau isite during weekends and public holidays ONLY!

Maunga Pūtauaki

All public access to hikoi Maunga/Mt. Pūtauaki is closed.

 

Hunting in Tarawera Forest

You must be a member of the Ngā Kaitiaki o Pokohu Hunting Club to hunt in the Tarawera Forest who descends from a living shareholder or a beneficiary of a registered trust of MIL.

All administration is undertaken by the Hunting Club Committee.

If you are not a member but would like to enquire to join, please contact ngakaitiakiopokohu01@gmail.com, criteria and availability will apply.
